“If you need something done, ask a mom. If nobody else can do it, she’ll always find a way.”

Getting stuff done
This week I am at college orientation with my son, and have been watching moms at their best. We’re all here figuring out how to prepare our offspring to leave the nest. There is a lot to do over these next few weeks to help them get ready, but this group is up to the task. There’s no denying it – moms get stuff done.
Our motivation
Someone once described motherhood to me as living with your heart walking around outside of your body. So true! Even imagining our children suffering is painful, so we are fierce protectors of their well-being. This is why so many moms are concerned about climate change.
For many of us, the urgency to reverse climate change is about protecting the planet for our children, grandchildren, and future generations. Today’s adults will (and already do) feel the impact of the changing climate, but unless we fix it, things will be worse after we are gone. We need to get this figured out.
Moms in action
Check out these incredible mom-led efforts to solve climate change. I love both organizations. You can find trustworthy information and ideas on each website.
Moms Clean Air Force – with a mission to “protect children from air pollution and climate change”, this powerhouse organization has over 1.5 million members. The organization educates and advocates for a better world for our kids. They offer lot of ways for people to get involved, and have chapters in states across the country.
Science Moms – this group of nonpartisan climate scientist moms is “working to give our children the planet they deserve”. These moms offer excellent educational resources, and also give tips for taking action. The 3 ways they suggest we can help are:
- Swap – when possible, switch to electric vehicles and appliances, and use renewable energy
- Share – talk to family and friends about what we learn and things we do
- Speak up – for example, join a group, reach out to our leaders, vote
If I had to bet on one group of people to make things happen when it comes to solving climate change, I would put my money on moms.
Let’s do something about climate change. Learn about it. Think about it. Talk about it.
