“Today there’s a chasm between people of differing worldviews, and yet there’s one thing we all can agree on: we want our families and friends to be safe.”
Kathleen Biggins, President and Founder of C-Change Conversations

In the early days of this blog, I came across a non-profit organization called C-Change Conversations. Their mission struck me because it was so similar to my own, and I have been following their work ever since. Recognizing that climate change had become a polarizing topic, Kathleen Biggins founded C-Change to help bridge the divide. They’re creating a sea change in the way we talk about climate.
A sea change
With a goal of “helping people across the political spectrum understand why they should care about climate change”, C-Change visits communities around the country to make presentations and have discussions. What sets this group apart is they are non-partisan, science-based, and focused on building consensus.
Through the help of a panel of advisors, they created a “climate primer”. It’s a multimedia presentation on the scientific consensus of climate change, along with its impact on our health, economy, and global security. Also included are solutions – both those already in action, and others in development.
Over the past ten years, C-Change has traveled to 32 states and spoken with over 20,000 people from about 300 different organizations. Instead of simply preaching to the choir, they have been well-received by groups of all stripes. Regardless of our differences, they emphasize the values we share and the things we all want for our families, friends, and future generations.
What can we do?
Are you part of a group or organization? Then why not consider inviting C-Change Conversations to visit? They have spoken in all sorts of settings including: businesses, churches, clubs, schools, and planning organizations. Presentations can be general, or tailored to a specific interest, like: climate impacts on the real estate and insurance markets, investments, or local issues.
To learn more, check out their website, or feel free to reach out to me. I met Kathleen recently, and am looking for opportunities for her to visit my home town. Indeed, talking about climate change and trying to find common ground is one of the best things we can do to help. This is why C-Change Conversations is meeting the moment. You are too when you find chances to talk about it in your daily life.
Let’s do something about climate change. Learn about it. Think about it. Talk about it.
