“I’m actually always looking for the good news.”

Today I’m taking a departure from my normal weekly article to share a bit of exciting news, along with an update from a previous article.
One bit of news
For the past few years, I have followed C-Change Conversations, a non-profit working to “help people across the political spectrum understand why they should care about climate change”. I am a big fan of their efforts to communicate the impacts of climate change in a nonpartisan, science-based way to audiences around the country.
The approach C-Change takes is closely aligned with mine, so I wanted to find a way to partner with them. Starting this week, I will be contributing through a blog on pragmatic ways we can all be part of the solution. Here is a link to the first article. You can also find it on their website.
A quick update
A few months ago, I wrote an article about the electrification of delivery vehicles. The US Postal Service has been working on modernizing their fleet. Called Next Generation Delivery Vehicles, they are being made by Oshkosh Defense in South Carolina.
Well, the first wave of electric mail trucks just hit the streets in Athens, GA. They have lots of benefits over the Grumman trucks the USPS has been using for years. The old ones are loud, get a paltry 9 mpg, are prone to breaking down, and don’t have many safety features.
Here’s a peek at the new ones:
What do you think? The design is definitely quirky, but I feel like they may fall into the category of things that are so ugly they’re cute (also known as cugly). Regardless of how they look, it sounds like letter carriers are on board. Importantly, they will reduce pollution and cut carbon emissions. Hopefully you will see them – but not hear them – in your neighborhood soon.
Let’s do something about climate change. Learn about it. Think about it. Talk about it.
